Privacy
Reading the law should not cost you your privacy. This page says exactly what is recorded when you visit, who else sees it, and how to switch off what can be switched off.
The short version
legislations.in has no accounts, no sign-up, no newsletter, no comments, no advertising and nothing to buy. You are never asked for your name, your email address or anything else about you, and nothing you read here is tied to you as a person.
Two things do happen automatically: the server keeps a short-lived log of requests, and Cloudflare carries the traffic and keeps its own records. Visits are also counted, in one case with cookies. Each is set out below.
Server records
Every page is served by a web server run by this site, in India. Like any web server, it writes one line for each request: the IP address it came from, the date and time, the address requested, whether it succeeded, how many bytes were sent, the page that linked you here, and the browser's user-agent string.
These logs exist to keep the site working and to spot abuse, such as a crawler hammering the server. They are rotated daily and deleted after about two weeks. They are not used to build any profile of a reader, and they are not shared with anyone.
Cloudflare
The site sits behind Cloudflare, which serves pages from a data centre near you, provides the HTTPS certificate and absorbs attacks. That means every request passes through Cloudflare, and Cloudflare sees the same details the server does. It acts as a processor for this site and keeps its own logs under its own policy.
Cloudflare is also how pages reach readers outside India at a reasonable speed, so there is no practical way to read this site without the traffic crossing it.
Measuring visits
Knowing which Acts people actually read decides what gets fixed first. Two tools do that counting.
Cloudflare Web Analytics
Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views, where visitors arrived from, which country they are in and how fast pages loaded. It sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser and does not follow you to other sites. The numbers it produces are totals, not records of individuals, and there is nothing in them that identifies you.
Google Analytics
Google Analytics 4 gives a fuller picture: which pages are read, in what
order, from which sources, on what kind of device, and roughly where in the
world. To do that it sets cookies in your browser, named
_ga and _ga_<id>, which hold a random
identifier and last up to two years. That identifier lets Google recognise
the same browser on a later visit. Google receives your IP address in order
to work out an approximate location and does not store it in Analytics. The
data is kept for no more than 14 months and is then deleted. Google acts as a processor
here; its own handling is described in
how Google uses data from sites that use its services.
No advertising features are enabled, nothing is sold, and this data is not combined with anything else.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Google Analytics does not load at all until you choose "Allow" on the small notice at the bottom of the page. Decline, and no script is fetched and no cookie is set. Elsewhere it loads by default, and you can switch it off here, for this browser, at any time:
The setting is remembered in this browser only, so you would need to repeat it on another device, or after clearing your browsing data. Browser tracking protection and Google's own opt-out add-on work here too, as does a browser that sends a Global Privacy Control signal: that is treated as a refusal and nothing loads.
What is kept in your browser
The site stores a couple of small values in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device and are not sent to the server:
theme— whether you chose the light or dark theme;analytics-consent— your answer about analytics;visitor-country— the two-letter country Cloudflare reported, so the question about consent is only asked where it has to be;- the state of a few page controls, such as a filter you typed.
You can clear these at any time through your browser's settings for this site. Everything still works without them.
Search
Search runs entirely inside your browser. The index of Acts and sections is downloaded once and matched locally, so what you type is never sent to this server and never appears in any log. The only exception is the address bar: if you press Enter on the search form, your query becomes part of the page address, which the server and Cloudflare do see in their request logs.
Your rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you may ask what personal data about you is being processed, ask for it to be corrected or erased, and complain about how it is handled. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation gives you comparable rights, including the right to object and to complain to your supervisory authority.
In practice there is very little here to ask about: an IP address in a log that is deleted within about two weeks, and a random analytics identifier you can refuse or erase from the page above. To make a request, write to the address below. Please say roughly when you visited, so the right log lines can be found before they expire.
This site is not directed at children, asks for no personal information and has nothing to sign up for.
